Step 1 of 5

Measuring momentum

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) compares the size of recent up days with recent down days, usually over 14 sessions, and puts the result on a 0–100 scale.

  • Near 100: gains have dominated recently.
  • Near 50: gains and losses have been about even.
  • Near 0: losses have dominated recently.
